The BMI or Body Mass Index is a person’s weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters. While it does not measure body fat directly, research has shown it is correlated.
It is a good assessment of overweight and obesity, which can be done in the comfort of your own home. However it is not a diagnostic and you should consult your physician should you have a concern.
To measure BMI for children, we recommend reading this article from the CDC website: Measuring Children’s Height and Weight Accurately At Home.
